ACCESS
GATEWAY TO ALL 50 SECRETARY OF
STATE WEB SITES.
TO SEARCH ONLINE PUBLIC RECORDS IN ALL 50 STATES.*
|
Most states have Web sites
open to the public for viewing public records online. Most states do not
charge for viewing those public records so they are free.
However those government Web sites have various Web addresses (URLs) so it can
take a long time to find them. Once a state's main Web site is found it
takes even more time to find the specific pages for online database searches.
The Web addresses (URLs) for those specific pages change frequently.
There are 50 states and each has its own separate Web site so it takes a lot of
time to create a directory of links and to maintain that directory so it is
current.
That is why Government Files Online, Inc. was formed. It is a private
corporation, not a government agency. It creates and maintains its own directory
of links to government Web sites where government files can be viewed online,
usually without further charge. Users must pay Government Files Online, Inc. a
fee to access this Web site.
|
Most states allow online (Internet) access to Secretary of State databases
to obtain public records
and other information about existing profit
corporations, nonprofit corporations, partnerships, limited partnerships,
limited liability companies, businesses and
other legal entities, including Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) lien filings and
fictitious name or trade name registrations.
|
Many state's Web sites include downloadable forms for articles of incorporation, amendments,
mergers, fictitious names, trademarks, and many other filing forms from the same
Web sites. (Users are cautioned to obtain legal advice from a lawyer familiar
with the laws of that state before using any form.)
|
However, many of the state Web sites are difficult to locate
on the Web. This Web site (www.SecSt.com) lists the Internet
Web sites (URL's) for the Secretaries of State in all 50 states and the District of
Columbia. Links are provided for direct access to online public
records databases maintained by state and local governments.
